Venezuela Stock Market Up 169%
Venezuela Stock Market Index is now up 168.96% since January 1.

CARACAS -- Venezuela’s stock market was down 0.3% this week, closing at 1,267,972 on low volume as less than 80,000 shares traded all week.

Only three stocks changed prices: Banco de Venezuela, up 4% at Bs. 26; Banco Provincial, up 0.69% at Bs. 395.8; and Mercantil Servicios Financieros B, down 2.44% at Bs. 400.

The Venezuela Stock Market Index is now up 168.96% since January 1, though up only 83.58% in official rate dollar terms because of a February devaluation.

Venezuela's stock market was officially founded on January 21, 1947 and inaugurated its first trading session on April 21 of the same year, after previously trading stocks over the counter. It traces its origins to the end of the colonial era, when in 1805 Don Bruno Abasolo and Don Fernando Key Muñoz founded the Casa de Bolsa y Recreación de los Comerciantes y Labradores in Caracas with the permission of the Spanish crown.
