Russia Parliament Head Says Snowden Accepts Venezuela Asylum

CARACAS -- National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden is accepting Venezuela's offer of asylum, according to Alexei Pushkov, head of the Russian lower house of parliament's foreign affairs committee.

"As might be expected, Snowden has agreed to the proposal of President Maduro. Apparently, this option seemed the most reliable to Snowden," Pushkov tweeted in Russian on his twitter account @Alexey_Pushkov . The tweet is available via the Latin American Herald Tribune's twitter account @lahtonline.

Snowden had received asylum offers from three Latin American countries -- Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua.

Snowden remains near a Moscow airport. How he will get to Venezuela remains to be seen.
