SAO PAULO – A 33-year-old Brazilian man died at his own wedding reception when he tripped and sliced open his femoral vein on a broken drinking glass he was keeping in his pocket, authorities said Tuesday.
Fabio dos Santos Maciel, a navy non-commissioned officer, was dead on arrival at Paulino Werneck Hospital, the Rio de Janeiro municipal health department said.
The incident, according to what relatives told the media, occurred after the wedding ceremony, held on Monday night in a club on Guanabara beach, when the man and wife Geise Guimaraes were saying goodbye to friends who had come to the reception.
Dos Santos Maciel tripped and fell, breaking the glass, which he had placed in his pocket as a memento of the nuptial toast given six hours earlier.
His body was transported for the funeral to his native Manaus, capital of the northern state of Amazonas. EFE
