MANAGUA – The National Police seized nearly one ton of cocaine on Nicaragua’s southern Caribbean coast and arrested a suspect, officials said. Officers also seized six vehicles, two motorcycles, three speedboats and three outboard motors, the National Police chief in charge of the Atlantico Sur Autonomous Region, or RAAS, Lee Edwin Lopez, said. The police operation was conducted between Thursday and Friday, the police chief said. Officers seized 973 bricks of cocaine weighing about one kilo each in a rural area outside Laguna de Perlas, a city in Nicaragua’s southern Caribbean region, the police chief said. Three Nicaraguans suspected of having links to the cocaine shipment are under investigation, Lopez said. Ezequiel Serrano, a Nicaraguan citizen arrested in the operation, will be handed over to prosecutors so he can be charged with drug trafficking, officials said. |
