MIAMI – Bachata singer-songwriter Prince Royce was again the big winner at the Premios Juventud awards, taking home eight prizes, four more than in 2011.

The entertainment awards gala, held Thursday night at the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami, honors the stars that young Latinos say are their favorite performers in 23 categories and are chosen by popular vote on the Internet.

Royce, who had 10 nominations, took home four prizes for the song “Las Cosas Pequeñas” (Little Things), as well as the one for the artist who best communicates on social networks.

He shared one of his eight awards with Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull, also winners of The Super Tour prize, in honor of his 2012 concert tour.

Iglesias, currently on tour with Jennifer Lopez, was unable to attend the awards ceremony, but Pitbull and Prince Royce went onstage to accept the honor and thank the Spanish singer for including them in his Euphoria tour.

The surprise loser of the evening was singer Romeo Santos, who came to the gala as the artist with the most nominations, 11, but won only two prizes.

The Premios Juventud also honored Spain’s Antonio Banderas for his work in movies, while giving Mexican soap opera heartthrob Fernando Colunga a Lifetime Achievement award.

Colombian Sofia Vergara got the prize for the Actress who Steals the Show. EFE
