Argentine Comedian Jorge Luz Dies

BUENOS AIRES – Argentine actor Jorge Luz, who stood out during his prolific career as a comedian and impersonator, died in Buenos Aires of a pulmonary infection, his family said Sunday. He was 90.

The artist, who acted in more than 30 films, died Saturday night in the Providencia Health Clinic in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Bavanera, where he had been receiving treatment for two weeks for a health problem that required surgery from which he was unable to recover, clinic spokesmen said.

Born on May 8, 1922, the actor, whose real name was Oscar Jorge Da Lus Borbon, became very popular for his television, movie, theater and radio roles.

Luz was a member of the group known as “Los cinco grandes del buen humor” (The five good mood greats) along with Zelmar Gueñol, Rafael Carret, Guillermo Rico and Juan Carlos Cambon, with whom he made Latin American and European tours.

A friend of the popular comedian Nini Marshall and brother of the late actress Aida Luz, the performer also became famous as an impersonator of the artist Tita Merello and for his character “La Porota,” in a duo he created during the 1980s with humorist Jorge Porcel.
