MONTEVIDEO – Marcel Curuchet, the keyboardist for Uruguayan band No Te Va a Gustar, died in a U.S. hospital where he had been admitted after a traffic accident, the group said on its official Web site.

“With the deepest sadness we want to inform you of the death of our companion and friend Marcell Curuchet” on Saturday, the band said.

The announcement said that the band wanted to send “a tight embrace” to the musician’s family and they thanked everyone who “offered their help and gave us strength by sending positive energy” after the accident.

“So long, friend, because like you said, ‘A promise is and always will be a promise,’” the band said.

The 40-year-old Curuchet lost control of the rented motorcycle he was riding and went off the road in New Jersey. The Uruguayan musician sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to the intensive care unit in a New Jersey hospital, where he died.

The band was giving a series of performances in the United States along with the Argentine group Autenticos Decadentes.
