Long-Jump Champ Saladino to Carry Panama’s Flag at Olympics

PANAMA CITY – Olympic long-jump champion Irving Saladino was chosen as the standard-bearer of the Panamanian delegation at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Saladino was chosen Monday night by the board of Panama’s Olympic Committee.

The committee’s note said that in case Saladino is unable to be present at the games’ inauguration ceremony, the sprinter Alonso Edward would take his place carrying the Panamanian flag.

The Panamanian delegation will be made up of seven athletes, five of them invited to the games by their respective international federations.

These are Carolina Cartens for taekwondo, track star Andrea Ferris, Omar Simmonds for judo, boxer Juan Huertas and swimmer Edgar Crespo. EFE
