10 Die in Crash in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO Ė At least 10 people were killed and seven others injured when a van collided with a truck on a highway in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia on Tuesday, the federal highway patrol said.

The accident happened around 5:15 a.m. on federal highway BR-324 in the Salvador metropolitan area, the federal highway patrol said.

The victims were being transported in the van from Santo Amaro to their workplaces in Salvador, the capital of Bahia.

Nine people were killed instantly and the tenth died while being treated at the State General Hospital, the highway patrol said.

Four people are listed in serious condition at different hospitals.

The vanís driver lost control for unknown reasons, went into the oncoming traffic and collided with a truck, eyewitnesses said.

The truck driver was not hurt in the accident, the highway patrol said. EFE
