Juan Luis Guerra Gets Fans Dancing in the Rain

SANTO DOMINGO – Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra performed for more than 40,000 diehard fans during the heaviest rains registered this year in Santo Domingo.

Fans who turned out for Saturday night’s concert were not disappointed, enjoying surprise appearances by Juanes and Romeo.

The skies opened up as soon as Guerra set foot on stage, but the singer-songwriter refused to let the weather scuttle the “AsondeGuerra” concert.

The heavier the rain got, the more a smiling Juan Luis sang.

The singer opened with “Apaga y vamonos,” a song that criticizes the demagoguery of politicians.

“La bilirrubina,” “La travesia” and “La llave de mi corazon” got the audience moving in the rain.

“This rain is a blessing, don’t worry about it,” Juan Luis said before easing into one of his standards, “Bachata rosa.”
