Juan Luis Guerra Sued by Ex-Business Partner

SANTO DOMINGO – Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra is facing a $1 million lawsuit from a former business partner, Diario Libre newspaper said in its online edition.

Businessman Bienvenido Rodriguez claims Guerra’s television studios illegally connected two high-powered air conditioners to the electricity supply of the plaintiff’s radio station, Z-101.

According to the daily Diario Libre, the suit seeks damages of 40 million pesos ($1 million).

The newspaper said that Guerra’s attorneys have checked the irregular connection, though it did not report on the artist’s attitude toward the litigation.

Juan Luis Guerra and Bienvenido Rodriguez were partners for years in the record business, and under the businessman’s management, the Dominican artist gained international fame.

As the years went by, however, relations between the two soured, and this is not the first time they have taken their conflicts to court. EFE
