QUITO – Fourteen people died and 17 others were injured Tuesday when a bus flipped over on a highway northeast of Quito, a spokesman for Ecuador’s fire rescue service told Efe.
The accident took place in the wee hours near the highland village of Papallacta, Cesar Enriquez said.
He said the injured were taken to hospitals in the capital and a clinic in Baeza, the nearest major town on the road linking Quito with Ecuador’s Amazon jungle region.
Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the crash, Enriquez said. EFE
