Robbers Walk Out of Argentine Bank with Sacks of Mail

BUENOS AIRES – Seven armed assailants wearing masks stormed a bank in the Argentine capital on Thursday, but walked out only with two sacks of letters.

The Hollywood-style heist took place at a Banco Credicoop branch in downtown Buenos Aires.

After driving into the garage in a vehicle identical to that of the branch manager, the robbers entered the bank, brandishing their guns and threatening the employees. They quickly grabbed two sacks that had just been delivered by a courier firm and fled.

The sacks “contained correspondence of no commercial value whatever,” Banco Credicoop said in a statement.

Police sources suggested the robbers’ real objective was several bags full of cash that were delivered to the bank along with the letters.

The sacks containing money had already been secured in the vault by the time the assailants entered the bank, the police sources told media outlets. EFE
