BOGOTA – A man who was the only member of a group of six Colombian police to survive a plane crash earlier this week in a mountainous area of the northwestern province of Antioquia has succumbed to his injuries, medical spokespersons said Saturday.
The officer with a narcotics-squad detail, identified as Robinson Carabali, died on Saturday at the San Vicente hospital in Medellin, the provincial capital.
Carabali had suffered severe trauma and burns over almost 80 percent of his body, the spokespersons said.
The six police – a captain, lieutenant and four non-commissioned officers – were flying from the northwestern town of Ituango to Bogota when the Cessna crashed for unknown reasons five minutes after take-off.
A police investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the crash.
