SAN SALVADOR – A journalist and radio host was stabbed to death in western El Salvador, police and associates of the victim said Thursday.
Nelson Hernandez was killed in the wee hours of Wednesday while on his way to the Radio SKY studios in Izalco, 65 kilometers (40 miles) west of San Salvador, to host his 5:00 a.m. program.
His dead body was found in a river.
The assailants apparently intercepted Hernandez a few blocks from his home, a Radio SKY employee who spoke on condition of anonymity told Efe.
The SKY employee could shed no light on the reason for the killing and was unable to say whether Hernandez had received any threats.
Authorities are investigating the murder, a police spokesperson in San Salvador told Efe, offering no additional details.
Prior to becoming a host on Radio SKY, Hernandez, the 47-year-old father of three children, reported on events in the western province of Sonsonate for several radio and television stations in the Salvadoran capital. EFE
