MOSCOW – Authorities in Moscow have opened a murder investigation in the case of a Peruvian diplomat who went missing here on New Year’s Day, a Russian official told Efe on Wednesday.
Sergio Alonso del Castillo Cebreros, a second secretary at the Peruvian Embassy, was last seen leaving a Moscow night club in the wee hours of Jan. 1, his colleagues said.
The search for Del Castillo continues “with the most ample collaboration of Russian government authorities,” Peru’s foreign ministry said in a statement posted on its Web site.
The ministry has also offered to arrange for the missing diplomat’s relatives to travel to Moscow, according to the statement.
Peruvian and Russian authorities remain in constant contact regarding the case, the ministry said. EFE
