QUITO – The Ecuadorian army said it confiscated 32,000 rounds of rifle ammunition in Tulcan, a city on the border with Colombia.
The bullets, found inside a private residence, were apparently intended for armed irregulars in the neighboring country, brigade commander Julio Cesar Barragan said.
Leftist guerrillas, right-wing militias and well-armed drug traffickers all operate in areas of southern Colombia bordering Ecuador.
Troops were joined by customs service officials in carrying out the seizure and an Ecuadorian national was arrested, according to comments from Barragan cited in the Web edition of El Telegrafo newspaper. EFE
