BOGOTA – The death toll from a collision between an intercity bus and a freight truck in central Colombia stands at 11, police said Friday.
The accident took place Thursday at a spot about 160 kilometers (99 miles) west of Bogota, and involved a bus en route to the Colombian capital from the northwestern city of Medellin.
The wreck was apparently caused by the failure of cables securing a container to the truck, according to the fire chief in the nearby town of Honda.
It was after the container fell off that the truck flipped over onto the bus, Capt. Cesar Santana said, describing the accident as “dramatic.”
Five other bus passengers injured in the crash remained hospitalized in Honda and La Dorada, authorities said. EFE
