Five Bolivians and a Brazilian Arrested in Anti-Drug Operation

LA PAZ – Bolivia’s anti-drug force on Wednesday arrested five Bolivians and a Brazilian in a town in the eastern province of Santa Cruz and seized from the group $730,000 allegedly obtained from drug sales.

The head of the FELCN anti-drug force in the region, Col. Ruben Suarez, told the media that the operation was conducted Wednesday in the town of San Miguel de Velasco, near the border with Brazil.

Police stopped a “suspicious” vehicle there in which the five Bolivian men and one Brazilian woman were traveling and during their subsequent search of the group they turned up the money which, Suarez said, was “the product of a drug transaction.”

The vehicle and the money were seized and the six arrested people were transferred to the city of Santa Cruz, the capital of the same-named province, where they will appear in court.

Suarez said that FELCN operations in the area will continue to attempt to find other people involved in this presumed drug sale.

The Bolivian anti-drug force has seized 17 tons of cocaine and 923 tons of marijuana in 7,766 police operations conducted during the first half of 2010. EFE
