RIO DE JANEIRO – All six people aboard were killed Thursday when a small aircraft crashed in Manaus, capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, authorities said.
The plane went down for unknown reasons shortly after taking off from the Manaus airport for the town of Maues, about 350 kilometers (217 miles) away, firefighters said.
Killed in the crash were state Education Secretary Cinthia Regia Gomes do Livramento, four of her aides and the pilot, the Amazonas government said.
Gov. Omar Aziz declared three days of official mourning. EFE
