SANTIAGO – A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday after injuring an Afro-Cuban man targeted for his skin color, Chilean police said.
Biger Galvano Ochoa, 38, was attacked on Tuesday morning as he was walking down a street in downtown Santiago.
The victim was taken to San Juan de Dios Hospital, where doctors diagnosed various bruises and light injuries on different parts of his body caused by punches and kicks.
The attacker, an admitted neo-Nazi, was arrested at the site of the incident. Police Capt. Sandra Vargas told Cooperativa radio that the adolescent confessed to having attacked the Cuban “for being black.”
Police are investigating the possibility that other neo-Nazis also may have participated in the attack. EFE
