WASHINGTON – Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has been invited to join U.S. President Barack Obama for next month’s annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.
More than 3,000 invited guests from 120 countries will take part in the Feb. 4 event at the Washington Hilton.
By tradition, the sitting U.S. president is the principal speaker.
Previous foreign guests at the prayer breakfast have included former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, U2 leader Bono and the late Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Spain currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union and Zapatero’s Feb. 3-4 stay in Washington will include meetings in preparation for May’s U.S.-EU summit, Spanish diplomats told Efe. EFE
