BOGOTA – Nineteen suspected rebel collaborators were captured by Colombian police in three separate operations, authorities said Wednesday.
The captured rebels belong to three different units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, police said in a statement.
The operation that had the best results, netting 14 of the fighters, was carried out near Tibu in the northeastern province of Norte de Santander.
The suspected guerrillas, the communique said, “appearing to be peasants, were found to be carrying out intelligence activities against members of the Public Force for the execution of terrorist acts and also were participating in the processing and marketing of cocaine.”
In Anori, a town in the northwestern province of Antioquia, police apprehended three people alleged to have spied on the security forces and reported back to the FARC.
The men are also accused of involvement in extortion and drug trafficking.
Finally, in a rural part of Uribe province, a “guerrilla informant” was captured with the help of the army. EFE
