Guatemalan Writer Jaime Barrios Peña Dies

BERLIN – Guatemalan writer, psychoanalyst and diplomat Jaime Barrios Peña died over the weekend in Stockholm, the online poetry magazine I Poeta Nomadi reported. He was 88.

Barrios Peña, who died Saturday in the Swedish capital, published more than 20 books in a variety of genres, from poetry and essays to plays and short novels.

Many of his books were published in Spanish by the Fenix publishing house in Stockholm.

Notable among his works are “Transgresion y Reeducacion” (Transgression and Re-education), “Psicologia y Psicopatologia de la Incertidumbre” (Psychology and Psychopathology of Uncertainty), “Prueba Proyectiva Nacional, Oficio de lo Imposible” (Planned National Test, Mission Impossible) and “De Strindberg a Bergman y Noren; la Tragedia de la Restitucion” (From Strindberg to Bergman and Noren; the Tragedy of Restitution).

Barrios Peña served as ambassador to Colombia, Costa Rica and Argentina, and lived in Sweden for the last 20 years of his life. EFE
