LIMA – A racehorse valued at $100,000 was stolen earlier this week by several assailants who killed it to sell its meat by the kilo at a market south of Lima.
The horse, a stud imported from the United States and called “Drilling for Oil,” was stolen after the thieves let other horses loose to distract stable guards, local media said Thursday.
The animal’s remains were found 3 kilometers (almost 2 miles) from its corral with evident signs of having been butchered.
The owner, identified as Hiad Hamide, said that this was not the first time criminal entered corrals in the area to kill animals and sell their meat on the market.
Hamide said that the thieves did not choose the horse deliberately, but stole it on Tuesday when they found it alone in the corral. EFE
