BOGOTA – Colombian authorities seized on Tuesday 1.5 tons of cocaine and a drug-smuggling submarine on the Pacific coast, the navy said in a communique.
The navy, in a joint operation with police and the DAS security service, also seized a speedboat used for moving illegal drugs.
The cocaine was found stashed underground with three rifles, bullets and a pair of two-way radios.
All the goods were taken to Buenaventura, Colombia’s main Pacific port.
The discovery took place the day after authorities found in a rural area of Colombia’s northwestern Caribbean coast two other submarines used by drug traffickers, each with the capacity to carry 6 tons of drugs.
The three submarines nabbed in the last two days join the 42 detected by the navy since 1993. EFE
