Colombian Businessman Julio Mario Santo Domingo Braga Dies

BOGOTA – Businessman Julio Mario Santo Domingo Braga, the oldest son of magnate Julio Mario Santo Domingo, one of Colombia’s richest men, died in New York of an undisclosed illness, Colombian media reported Sunday. He was 52.

Santo Domingo Braga, an executive of Grupo Santo Domingo, died Saturday of a disease he had suffered from since October, industrialist Augusto Lopez Valencia, a former executive of the conglomerate, told Caracol Radio.

He was the son of Brazilian Edalia Braga, the first wife of his father, and he was a member of the boards of several consortia, among them Caracol Television and the publisher of the Bogota daily El Espectador and Cromos magazine.

The Santo Domingo conglomerate owns more than 100 companies and up until a few years ago was the owner of brewery Bavaria and Avianca airlines.

A daughter of Santo Domingo Braga, Tatiana, is the girlfriend of Andrea Casiraghi, the son of Princess Caroline of Monaco.
