CARACAS -- Venezuelan Central Bank President Gaston Parra Luzardo died Sunday morning at a Caracas hospital after a long illness, officials said. He was 75.
Parra Luzardo, who earned a degree in economics from the University of Zulia, had been the Central Bank's chairman since 2005.
He served as vice president of the Central Bank in 2000.
In 2002, Parra Luzardo was chairman of state-owned oil giant Petroleos de Venezuela S.A., or PDVSA, and taught when not working in public service.
A wake will be held for Parra Luzardo at the Central Bank's facility in downtown Caracas.
