Mysterious Van Gogh Artwork to Be Revealed in Paris

PARIS -- Sotheby’s and Mirabaud Mercier auction houses on Wednesday are unveiling an artwork by renowned Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) that has not been exhibited in more than 100 years and which will be put up for sale for the first time on 25 March.

Van Gogh painted it during his period living in Paris, between 1886 and 1888, sources at Sotheby's told Efe. No other details about the art piece have been made available.

The image included in the media invitation to the event features a couple strolling on what seems to be Paris’ Montmartre hill with its typical mills and vineyards as a backdrop.

With fuzzy lines, typical of post-impressionism, the couple, dressed in black, walk in the middle of a winter landscape.

Sotheby’s will reveal all the details related to the painting and its estimated sale price later on at its Paris headquarters.

In 2020, a painting from Van Gogh's 'Cottage' series, which had already been sold several times, fetched a price of 15 million euros in the Netherlands.
