BARCELONA – FC Barcelona and Konami announced on Tuesday that they have signed a new contract that makes the Japanese gaming company a global partner for the next four seasons.
“FC Barcelona and KONAMI announced today that they are renewing their relationship with a new Global Partnership agreement, whereby the digital entertainment firm behind the Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series of videogames will be continuing its association with the Club for the next four years,” the La Liga champions said in a statement on its website.
Extending the sponsorship deal coincides with the unveiling of the new edition of eFootball PES 2020, which will have Argentina star Lionel Messi on its cover.
The new edition is set to be available on Sept. 10 in America, Asia and Europe, two days before it will be on sale in Japan.
Messi is set to succeed his Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho who were on the cover of the previous two editions.
Former Barcelona player Ronaldo de Asis, best known as Ronaldinho, will be on the cover of the Legend Edition which will have, “an exclusive 3D scanned version of the Brazilian,” the Catalan club said.
As part of the deal the Japanese company, creator of Pro Evolution Soccer, will launch a special Barcelona edition of PES 2020, which will be available in September in the official team store at Camp Nou stadium.
Barcelona fans will be able to decide the cover of the video game as they will be able to vote for their favorite among several designs on the club’s website starting on June 12.
