UK’s Prince Philip Turns 98, Royal Family Share Historic Photographs Online

LONDON – The United Kingdom’s Prince Philip celebrated his 98th birthday on Monday.

The social media accounts linked to the royal family shared photographs depicting moments in the Duke of Edinburgh’s life to mark the milestone.

Philip’s son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, wished Philip a happy birthday alongside a black and white photograph showing a two-year-old Charles walking hand-in-hand with his father after returning from a trip to Malta in 1951.

Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, shared two images of Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, one that was taken recently and another from 66 years ago, showing the duke in his thirties, wearing a military uniform.

Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, posted four family photographs alongside a happy birthday message for the grandfather of their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

On Saturday, celebrations were held to mark the Queen’s official 93rd birthday, an event that takes place every June when the weather tends to be favorable, although her actual birthday falls on April 23.

The Trooping the Color parade has been held for over 260 years and sees most of the queen’s family in attendance.

The Duke of Edinburgh did not attend this year’s edition, as he has now retired from all official engagements.

Prince Philip, who was born in Greece in 1921 and has been married to the monarch since 1947, is the longest-serving male consort in the history of the UK’s royal family.

The couple has four children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
