Chilean, Brazilian Business Owners Recognized for Their Social Impact

PARIS – Businesses from all over the world were this week recognized in Paris for their enterprising projects in the field of financial technology and social impact.

The Chilean organization “Mujeres del Pacifico” (Women of the Pacific) and the Brazilian company DinDin were recognized as part of the first Visa Everywhere Initiative aimed specifically at women in a bid to serve as a platform to publicize their projects.

“Women of the Pacific is a social company working with women business owners from Latin America, supporting them with training and education. We link them up with key networks, we give them access to financial resources, electronic business,” said its co-founder Fernanda Vicente, finalist in the impact social category.

Since being founded in 2013, it has managed to help businesses in Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Chile set up a network for education and networking, something that has captured the attention of Visa.

In the field of financial technology, Stephanie Fleury was recognized for her work with DinDin, which offers financial services to people who do not have bank accounts as well as pre-paid cards and apps for emerging businesses with the goal of boosting financial inclusion.

“Being Latino representatives in this initiative is revolutionary for us, it changes the rules of the game,” Fleury told EFE. “Being a woman and a business owner in a financial company is very hard and in the investment arena this gives us credibility and visibility to attract new investors and clients, something that happened during the ceremony.”

Pakistan’s Naureen Hyat, of Financial Services, and Cameroon’s Monique Ntumngia from the NGO Green Girls were the winners of the first edition of the prize among 12 representatives from the five continents, taking away a prize of $100,000 to bolster the growth of their projects.

“For us female empowerment is critical,” the vice president of marketing strategy and innovation for Visa, Andres Polo, told EFE. “The majority of small business are created by women, and what better place than Paris to carry out these plans during the FIFA Women’s World Cup?”

The payment company is one of the official sponsors of the soccer tournament, which kicked off Friday in the French capital.

The event will see trophies being handed out for the players of the day.

“In total 52 players will be sponsored by Visa, as well as the team from the United States and the “Team Visa” side, with players from all over the world,” Polo added.

The tournament will serve as a platform for the use of contactless payment methods via bracelets that have been created especially for the occasion.

Visa aims to carry on with this global category of competition aimed exclusively at women, opening the field of financial tech up to social and ecological impact in a quest to empower other women.
