Schwartzel New South African Open Leader after 2nd Day

JOHANNESBURG – South African golfer Charl Schwartzel leapfrogged on Friday his countryman Louis Oosthuizen atop of the leaderboard of the South African Open tourney held in Johannesburg.

The 34-year-old Schwartzel, who has won 11 European Tour titles, including the 2011 Masters Tournament, recorded a fantastic second round with an eagle in the 17th and six birdies to impressively jump 16 spots to first place on the scoreboard.

Zambia’s Madalitso Muthiya maintained the second spot for the second round as he was one stroke off the pace set by Schwartzel.

The United States’ Kurt Kitayama started the round in second place and managed to record four birdies on the day, but also had two bogeys and by the end of play had taken a step backward to share the third spot with South African golfers Zander Lombard and Oosthuizen.
