LONDON – Manchester City’s head coach Pep Guardiola said in a press conference Friday that his side’s Argentine striker Sergio Agüero and Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne are set to miss the upcoming Premier League clash against Chelsea.
Guardiola added that he excluded both stars from the upcoming match due to their ongoing injuries.
“No, both cannot play tomorrow,” the Spanish coach said via City’s official website. “Both will be back soon.”
Undefeated City holds the Premier League’s top spot with 41 points and is set to be hosted by fourth-placed Chelsea – with 31 points – at Stamford Bridge Saturday.
The Blues’ Italian manager, Maurizio Sarri, earlier praised Man City, saying that the Premier League defending champion is one of the best clubs in Europe.
“Thank you (to Sarri) but we are not the best,” Guardiola said in response to the Chelsea head coach’s compliment.
The Spanish coach then discussed Sarri’s work with Chelsea: “People don’t know how hard it is to create a style. He is going to do that.”
Guardiola underscored that his goal was not to win all of City’s games this season, but instead to play and focus on one match at a time.
