Chinese Police Crack 1.18 Million Theft, Fraud Cases in 2018

BEIJING – Chinese police recovered property worth 6.56 billion yuan ($951 million) and cracked 1.18 million cases of robbery, theft and fraud in the first 11 months of 2018, the China Daily newspaper reported on Friday.

The majority of the offenses were carried out by syndicates based on location and kinship and seriously undermined public security, Ministry of Public Security spokesperson Guo Lin said, according to the report.

China will target telecommunications and online crimes, which have become increasingly professional, from early December until the end of next year, Guo said.

The Ministry of Public Security plans to improve the investigative ability of the police and take measures to increase their strength to deal with such crimes, said Chen Shiqu, deputy director of the ministry’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.

“All local public security bureaus around the country will closely monitor the criminal situation and crack it whenever they discover one,” Chen added.
