Real Madrid Routs Melilla 6-1, Advances to Copa del Rey Last 16

MADRID – Real Madrid trounced third-tier UD Melilla 6-1 in the second leg of the Copa del Rey’s round of 32 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Thursday, thus making it through to the last-16 of the Spanish tournament.

Spain midfielders Marco Asensio and Isco Alarcon were in good form during the match, leading the Whites to claim an impressive victory.

Asensio scored a brace and provided an assist in a seven-minute stretch as he opened the scoring in the 33rd minute off an assist from Daniel Carvajal.

Just two minutes later, Asensio doubled Los Blancos’ lead as he was assisted by Brazilian youngster, 18-year-old Vinicius Junior.

Asensio then set Real Madrid B team’s defender Javi Sanchez up for the third goal in the 39th minute. Thus, Los Blancos went to the break with a 3-0 lead.

After the intermission, it was Isco’s turn to score giving Real a 4-0 in the 47th minute, making the most of Dani Ceballos’ assist.

Following some squandered chances, Vinicius struck the fifth goal for Los Blancos in the 75th minute, before Moroccan forward Yacine Qasmi got one back for Melilla on a successful penalty attempt six minutes later.

Isco, who was in the starting line-up list for the first time under Argentine coach Santiago Solari, netted his second goal in the match to seal the 6-1 victory in the 83rd minute.

Real Madrid joins Getafe, Valencia, Leganes, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, Girona, Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Villarreal, Barcelona, Real Valladolid and Levante for the Spanish Cup’s last-16 round.
