Uran Joins List of Top Cyclists Taking Part in Tour Colombia 2.1

BOGOTA – Colombian cyclist Rigoberto Uran announced on Friday his participation in the 2019 Tour Colombia 2.1, joining four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome and world champion Alejandro Valverde in signing up for the Feb. 12-17 race.

“It is clear that we start (the season) here in Colombia with the Tour Colombia, and afterward we will see – once we gather with the team – where we will be and in which races,” Uran told EFE during a press conference in Bogota.

Uran, who finished second at the Tour de France in 2017, said that Tour Colombian is “gaining a lot of strength” because people enjoy seeing international cyclists compete in the Andean nation “after so many years.”

Looking back on 2018, Uran said that while the year had gone “very well” on the personal front, he was disappointed with his results on the bike.

Uran had to abandon the 2018 Tour de France after being hurt in a fall on Stage 9, He recovered in time to ride the Vuelta a España, but managed only a seventh-place finish.

About the Giro de Rigo, last Sunday’s one-day race organized by Uran in the province of Antioquia with Froome in attendance, he said the event went very well.

Uran, who won the silver medal in the road race at the 2012 Olympics in London, did not rule out participating in the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
