Mazda Recalls 640,000 Diesel Vehicles Worldwide

TOKYO – Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor announced on Thursday a global recall of 640,000 diesel vehicles due to technical problems detected in the valves used in their engines.

The affected models include the Mazda 3, CX-5 and CX-8, with 230,000 of the vehicles being recalled in Japan and 410,000 in the rest of the world, a Mazda spokesperson told EFE.

The problem has been found in the valve springs used in Mazda’s diesel engines, after a similar fault forced rival carmaker Subaru to recall 400,000 vehicles last week.

Most Japanese carmakers have been forced to recall vehicles recently due to irregularities in inspection procedures and defects in the material and components provided by suppliers, problems that have significantly affected their corporate results.
