CHONBURI, Thailand – Thailand celebrated its annual Chonburi buffalo racing festival on Tuesday with around 300 buffaloes sprinting to roaring cheers from the crowd.
Divided into categories according to size, the buffaloes raced throughout the day, with some jockeys taking a spill.
The festival is held every October by farmers to celebrate the rice harvest and mark the end of the Buddhist Lent.
It dates back more than 140 years and is thought to be the only one of its kind in the world.
The colorful festival also includes a decorated buffalo beauty contest, horse parade, wagon parade and music and food.
The seaside city of the province of the same name is located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Bangkok.
