Pinot Wins 19th Stage of Vuelta; Yates Extends Lead

COLL DE LA RABASSA, Spain – French cyclist Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) won Friday’s 19th stage of the Vuelta a España, as Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) of the United Kingdom extended his overall lead.

Pinot crossed the finish line of the 154.4-kilometer (95.9-mile) stage five seconds ahead of Yates and 13 seconds faster than Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk (Lotto NL-Jumbo).

Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), who is second in the General Classification, was 1:11 off the pace of Pinot.

Yates increased his advantage over Valverde in the GC to 1:38 and leads third-place Kruijswijk by 1:58.

Saturday’s 20th stage will run 97.3km from Escaldes-Engordany to Coll de La Gallina.
