HONG KONG A record number of exhibitors were on Friday dazzling visitors with their diamonds and gemstones on the first day of the Hong Kong Jewelry and Gem Fair.
More than 3,700 exhibitors from around the world gathered at two venues the AsiaWorld-Expo, where an array of diamonds, gems and pearls were being displayed, and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, where buyers could find finished jewelry, tools, packaging and industry technologies, according to the event website.
Special events include the invitation-only Alrosa Diamond Preview, JNA Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner and pearl auctions, as well as the NGTC Jade Forum and Guild Ruby Symposium.
Thailand sent the largest contingent of international exhibitors, with close to 400 finished jewelry manufacturers and gemstone suppliers, the organizers said in a statement.
We are also seeing strong participation from Japan, which is fielding more than 320 companies. The delegation includes loose pearl dealers, finished pearl jewelry manufacturers and fine jewelry specialists, said Celine Lau, Director of Jewelry Fairs at UBM Asia, adding that exhibitors will be able to network with an international audience of wholesalers and importers, retailers and designers.
The event is the largest showcase in the world for jewelry made by Hong Kong companies and features over 560 diamond suppliers, more than 220 pearl companies and 800-plus colored gemstone specialists.
The show runs until Tuesday.
