BOGOTA – A bus driver found a boa constrictor more than three feet in length inside the engine of his vehicle in Bogota, local sources reported on Monday.
The reptile was found when the vehicle was taken in for routine maintenance, the Environment Ministry said in a press release.
The driver contacted Animal Protection officials, who took the creature to the mayor’s office.
Authorities assessed the boa’s physical condition to “determine” its “recovery and rehabilitation” process.
According to Environment Ministry figures, as many as 2,220 animals have been rescued since 2016, some 1,800 of which have been taken from “traffickers.”
On March 4, authorities rescued another boa constrictor 1.6 meters (5.3 feet) in length, which had been abandoned at Bogota’s Simon Bolivar Park after giving birth.
