TORONTO – The Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal defeated Russia’s Karen Khachanov 7-6 (3), 6-4 on Saturday and qualified for the finals of the Toronto Masters 1000 where he will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Nadal, the first head of the series, did not have much difficulty in overcoming his opponent, although the first set was somewhat more closely contested and ended in a tiebreak.
But in the tiebreaker Nadal easily assumed control and scored a point in the first set.
During the second set, he took advantage in the third game, in which broke Khachanov’s service, who no longer knew how to cope with Nadal’s moves leading to the latter’s win 1 hour and 49 minutes later.
Nadal will go up in the final against Tsitsipas whom he defeated at the Barcelona Open 6-2, 6-1.
