Bull Riders Test Their Mettle at Mount Isa Mines Rodeo in Australia

MOUNT ISA, Australia – Hundreds of people were drawn Saturday to northern Australia for the 60th Mount Isa Mines Rodeo.

Taking place in the city of Mount Isa in northern Queensland, the rodeo features several bull riding events, some of which are competitive and see skilled riders awarded for staying on top of the bucking broncos for as long as possible The rodeo opened Wednesday and runs until Sunday, with the main rodeo competitions taking place from Friday onwards, according to a program on the rodeo website.

Also on the rodeo agenda are performances by several music bands, entertainment for children and market stalls.

One of the final events on Sunday will see Mount Isa Rodeo Champions compete against their North American counterparts.

The first Mount Isa rodeo was held in 1958 and the event’s popularity reflects the farming and ranch heritage of northern Queensland.
