CHIRIQUI, Panama – The vice president for the Americas of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, Hector Pereira, officially inaugurated on Friday the Baseball World Cup Under 15 at the Kenny Serracin stadium in the district of David in Panama.
Pereira, in the middle of a colorful inauguration act in which Panamanian folk culture was the highlight, said that “today in the Panamanian Province of Chiriqui I declare the fourth World Cup Under 15 open... Play Ball!”
Pereira, who was excited to see the future of baseball gathered on the playing field, noted that baseball is becoming more and more global.
“These guys are the future of baseball, the 12 best teams in the world are here in Panama and that is a sign that baseball is increasingly becoming a globalized sport,” he added.
Preceding Pereira was Ramon Crespo – representative of the Panamanian Baseball Federation (Fedebeis) – who expressed his gratitude for the presence of the different delegations in the country and his satisfaction at being able to help the WBSC to carry out this tournament.
“The ball is having a party. Panama and the Americas present a top-class event, welcome all and Play Ball!” Crespo said.
He also hailed the fact that this tournament brings together the “golden category of world baseball.”
The inauguration ceremony was enlivened by the music band from the Daniel Octavio Crespo School of Bugaba in Chiriqui and its dance group along with fireworks.
The Baseball World Cup Under 15 will take place in Herrera (Chito) and Chiriqui (David) until Aug. 19.
