Two Spaniards in European Triple Jump Final for 1st Time Ever

BERLIN For the first time ever, two Spaniards are set to take part in the European triple jump final as Pablo Torrijos and Marcos Ruiz earned a place on Friday in the final of the 2018 Athletics European Championships held in Berlin.

Torrijos qualified for his third consecutive continental final with his first jump of 16.79 meters, eying his first podium appearance, having come eighth in previous attempts.

The 26-year-old Torrijos made the most of a favorable wind to surpass by four centimeters the required mark to qualify automatically for the final.

Ruiz, meanwhile, making his debut with the national team, did not crumble under pressure though he did have to wait until his third and final jump to book a place in the final, recording 16.59 meters.

The final is set to take place on Sunday.
