TOKYO Ė Japanís Foreign Minister Taro Kono is set to begin his Latin American tour to Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico over the weekend, an official statement said on Friday.

The statement did not provide details of Konoís meetings during his visit although he is expected to meet with top officials of these countries as well as Japanese representatives.

In Quito, Taro Kono would be attending events marking the centenary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Ecuador and Japan.

Kono would be reaching Peru on Monday and is scheduled to fly to Colombia Wednesday for the third phase of his tour.

The Japanese foreign ministerís tour is set to end on Aug. 19 in Mexico, where he would be reaching on Thursday.

Konoís visit to Latin America comes after his May visit to Mexico on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
