BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping urged countries in the Middle East to remove barriers to peace through negotiations and dialogue, while addressing representatives from 21 Arab nations at the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing.
In his opening address, Xi had stressed that cooperation between China and Arab countries had intensified in the past four years and reiterated that China was willing to play a major role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Xi also stressed on the need to address the situation in Palestine and called on the parties to resume talks “as soon as possible” to achieve lasting peace and establish new mechanisms to work in this direction.
He also announced an aid of 100 million yuan (about $15 billion) to Palestine to help its economic growth.
In the eighth edition of the CASCF, China is seeking to boost its presence in the region through cooperation in the sectors of energy, infrastructure and trade.
Xi said that China-Arab cooperation declaration would be signed for the Belt and Road Initiative, a Chinese project that envisages transport and telecommunications infrastructure to act as a bridge with the rest of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
It would mark a new historical starting point for the Sino-Arab partnership and cooperation, and would boost the existing alliance between both parties, Xi said.
