Stats Donít Matter, What Counts Is Play on Field, Toluca Coach Cristante Says

TORREON, Mexico Ė Toluca coach Hernan Cristante said ahead of his teamís clash with Santos Laguna on Thursday night in the Liga MX Clausura tournament final that statistics do not matter, what counts is getting the job done on the field.

ďHistory and statistics donít play, the final is a new start with two different teams that have their strengths and weaknesses, and the one that makes the fewest mistakes will come out ahead. Itís soccer, itís complex and we both want the same thing,Ē the Argentine coach told reporters Wednesday.

Toluca arrived on Wednesday in the northern Mexican city of Torreon, where the teams will meet in the first leg of the final.

The teams met in the 2000 summer tournament final and the 2010 Bicentenario tournament, with Toluca coming out on top both times.

The 48-year-old Cristante said he was happy and felt confident ahead of the match.

ďThere are lots of pleasant emotions, I donít feel scared, of something negative. That doesnít mean that I feel superior to our rival. It means Iím happy to lead a group that has given everything it has in this tournament,Ē the Toluca coach said.

Toluca defeated Morelia in the quarterfinals and took out Tijuana in the semifinals.

Santos Laguna, for its part, eliminated the defending champion Tigres UANL in the quarterfinals and beat America in the semifinals.
