Boca Juniors Beat Alianza Lima, Passes to Round of 16

BUENOS AIRES – Argentina’s Boca Juniors Wednesday beat Peru’s Alianza Lima 5-0 and secured second place in Group H thanks to the victory of Brazil’s Palmeiras over Colombia’s Junior in Sao Paulo, which qualified the Argentine team for the round of 16 in the 2018 Copa Libertadores.

With two goals from Ramon Abila and one each from Edwin Cardona, Frank Fabra and Carlos Tevez, the Argentine team had its most solid performance in the tournament and celebrated the victory over Alianza Lima on Wednesday in the La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires.

Boca Juniors climbed to second place of Group H with nine points thanks to the three goals of Colombian striker Miguel Borja, which led Palmeiras (16 points) to win against Junior (seven points) by 3-1.

Boca Juniors got the opening goal early in the 12th minute by Cardona and another goal later in the 20th minute by Fabra.

Alianza Lima conceded another two points to Boca Juniors thanks to Abila’s first goal in the 34th minute and his other in the 42nd thanks to a precise pass from Cristian Pavon.

Boca Juniors’ last point came in the 54th minute when Carlos Tevez shot a goal into the box guarded by Angelo Campos, securing victory for his team.

The match ended with Boca Juniors celebrating their ticket to the round of 16, while Alianza Lima got eliminated from the tournament.
